You are always welcome at Pleasant Valley UMC, a friendly place where people care and Jesus is Lord! You may have several questions before you attend a worship service, and we hope you’ll find some answers here.
When does church start?
10:00 AM each Sunday beginning May 19, 2013 for the summer.
What should I wear?
Whatever you are comfortable in, really. You’ll meet men wearing jeans and khakis, women in skirts, dresses or slacks, and teenagers in basketball shorts and t-shirts. Some families enjoy “dressing up” and are comfortable in a more traditional Sunday dress.
What about Sunday school?
We offer classes for children and adults. Children ages 3 through high school meet in age-level classes from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. beginning May 19, 2013, for the summer. Adults meet in a variety of classes that offer general interest lessons and lots of fellowship. These classes also meet from 9:00 to 9:45, which allows you to attend Sunday school and the 10:00 a.m. worship service beginning May 19, 2013, for the summer. Newcomers are always welcome!
Where is the church?
PVUMC is located in north Amarillo at 316 Valley Avenue. The church is a half-block off of River Road. For a map of the church’s location, click here.
What do you believe?
As a United Methodist Church, we belong to a community of more than three million worshippers. We believe in sharing the good news of Jesus Christ through our words, thoughts and actions. We believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ our Lord as a divine revelation of God’s presence among us. We believe in the Holy Spirit as the third person of the Trinity who dwells in us and empowers us to carry forth the Gospel. We believe the final revelation of God’s kingdom will be the redemption of all mankind and that with God’s help we can achieve the great commission of sharing the love of Christ.
May I take Holy Communion?
Yes. Anyone who believes in Christ is welcome to share communion with us the first Sunday of every month.
How may I join the church?
Church membership is offered in different ways depending on your background. If you are currently a member of another church, you may join the Pleasant Valley membership by transfer. If you are not a member of another church, you may join us through a profession of faith. After meeting with the pastor, you will be presented to the congregation to witness your response to questions affirming your beliefs.
Please speak with our pastor for more information about membership and baptism. Although we would love to have you join our church, be assured that membership is not expected of anyone who does not yet feel the time is right.
